Patrimonial/heritage Route Way to Gabriela Mistral

Ruta Patrimonial Camino a Gabriela Mistral

The Patrimonial/heritage Route Way to Gabriela Mistral has been one of the most interesting projects in which I had worked, since it is a heritage project with a territorial, multisectorial systemic vision, with various initiatives in different locations and with the participation of different actors from the private and public sector.

My work required first researching the life and work of Gabriela Mistral, especially in the localities of the Coquimbo region, where she was born and remained her first years of life. I decided to work under the focus of the life-work triad -Territory, that is, patrimonial places where she lived (in this case almost all were small towns of rural areas), his work or writings in said places or with respect to said places and the territorial and temporal context, the impact of geography in her work (specially the Elqui Valley in her first years of life), her biographical journey from the mountain range to the sea, the local rural context, and the global context.

Among these interesting tasks I had to prepare the file to request the declaration of a National Monument, in the category of Historical Monument, of Gabriela Mistral’s house in “Las Compañías” sector, where she lived north of the La Serena district. The declaration was the first step, then i formulated the public investment project that allowed to acquire the property, restore it and build, in the same lot, the building for the Mistralian Center of the University of La Serena, and i was the co-author of their architecture design, and I later participated as a review commission in the process of its construction. Therefore, I participated in the entire life cycle of the project.

Together with this, as Regional Heritage Manager of the Ministry of Public Works and part of the infrastructure commission of the Mistraliana Route, I had to coordinate and follow up on all the initiatives with the different actors involved.

The Gabriela Mistral Heritage Route was a project highlighted at the national level for its systemic vision, for the recovery of the image and significance of Gabriela Mistral for the country, for the region and for each of the localities where she lived.

The video of the heading corresponds to the Exhibition of the Gabriela Mistral Heritage Route to the Consegeros Regionales of the commission of culture of the regional governments of all country. The presentation gives an account of the state of the art of the different initiatives that made up the Route until 2011, when i worked as Regional Heritage Manager of the Ministry of Public Works, in the Coquimbo Region.
